In my previous post i told you about the two methods which you can use to add shortcuts to your files/folders so that you can access them using that shortcut. In this post i will go through the third method which applies to only files but with a little tweak it will work with folders as well.
#Method 3
- Open run window using windows key+R and then type regedit and click OK.
- Now using the left pane navigate through:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths
- Now right click on App Paths and click New and then select Key and rename it with whatever name you want with any extension you want.
Example: Technocrat.gif
- Now select the Key which you just created and in the right pane double click on (Default).
- Now in the Value data: type the complete path of the file for which you are creating the shortcut and click OK and you are done. (Do not forget to use the extension of the file as well)
Example: If my file named rohit.jpg is in D drive then in Value data i will type D:\rohit.jpg
- Now to open the file just open run window using windows key+R and type the name of the key you created and click OK.
Example: In this case type Technocrat.gif to open rohit.jpg
Tweak (For folders):
- To apply this method to folders as well you just have to create the shortcut of the folder by right clicking on it and then selecting create shortcut.
- After you create the shortcut just apply the method to the shortcut file you created and then it will work with the folder as well.
